PLACE / SPACE / MEANING

/

/

/

Human-based topographical understanding of space and place play an important role in how people navigate an area. Yet, both concepts vary in that ‘space’ also represents something abstract or lacking in concrete meaning. Additionally, the idea of ‘place’ stretches to include an awareness or attraction, to a particular place, experienced by individuals or groups of people. Place could develop into substantial space where meaning evolves.

The [SHIFT:ibpcpa]  committee look forward to receiving applications from artists with an awareness of what SPACE / PLACE / MEANING could represent or explore.  For example, memory, understanding, haptic, phenomenological or other sensory knowledge of a single or combination of stated areas. These can range from hypothetical to lived and experienced areas exploring how do we create meaning, space and place for ourselves, for society and as groups.

/

/

The first [SHIFT:ibpcpa] will present projects from artists with a unique interpretation of the concept of SPACE / PLACE / MEANING. Artists must include these elements into their work while also retaining the main focal points of the biennale (performance, collaborative or participatory practices).
